Less than week before the seniors kick it all off. But the kids are in action still...
Arsenal kicked off their Group in the Champions Youth Cup with a 0-0 draw against Ajax. Word is Jay Simpson played well enough up front but wasn't able to finish, with Rui Fonte playing off him just behind. Also some nice words about Havard Nordveidt, with him playing more like a play making defender than one prepared to simply hoof it up field every time he touches it. We're stuck in the bottom spots of the group, but still have two matches to play. We play Flamengo next on Friday the 10th.
It seems digital TV provider Setanta is in talks with the club about starting a branded Arsenal TV channel, This would not be the current ATVO, but a new dedicated channel like MUTV. Well, it wouldn't pander to the mentally challenged, but you get the idea.
England manager Hope Powell announced the England squad for next month's Women's World Cup in China. Arsenal are represented by no less than nine on the squad, including senior members Alex Scott, Lianne Sanderson, Kelly Smith, and returning captain Faye White. The women start the tournament against Japan on September 11.
Peggy Lokando has signed for Southend United. Having been released by Arsenal after last season, he impressed enough to earn a 2 year deal with United, and will join up with former Gunners teammate Kerrea Gilbert who's there on loan, and one time reservist Tommy Black, who signed earlier this summer.
Latest news on Joe O'Cearuill has him moving to St. Mirren in Scotland, where he'd meet up with former keeper Mark Howard. I think he'd do well up there for a team at that level.
Former reserve defender Liam Chilvers signed a long term extension at Preston North End. Good news for him, and I'm happy he's proven himself there and secured his future for some time with a high level club.
Arsene talks about Matthew Connolly's loan move to Colchester, and how it will improve him. Nothing about him destroying Teddy Sheringham, unfortunately.
My teeth need brushing now. Good night.
