The preseason continues nicely, with the seniors and reserves in Austria coming out 3-0 winners over Genclerbirligi. The goals came from Robin van Persie with 2 and Theo Walcott, who showed glimpses of his skills wide right. Here's hoping he can keep impressing and take the wide right spot from the Bread basket.

Arsenal have sent their second reserves player out, with keeper Vito Mannone joining up with Scottish Premier League debutants Gretna. It was initially believed Vito had agreed to a year-long loan, but it seems he's only there on trial this point, and will secure the loan deal if he impresses the club. He's in for a tough one, as Gretna have already brought in Tony Caig on trial, are considering another approach for Zbigniew Malkowski who spent last season on loan from Hibernian, and already have youngster Greg Fleming under contract.

Look for Vito to see action on Saturday against Darlington.

Liam Brady will help represent the club at the Champions Youth Cup in Malaysia from August 5 to 19. The Arsenal squad listed on the official site is an interesting read. They have the aforementioned Vito Mannone as one of our keepers, and while new youngster Havard Nordtveit is listed, the squad also includes a player I don't believe we've ever officially announced as signed - Gilles Sunu, the young French striker. One other noticeable name is the very young Cedric Evina, who I believe is all of 14 or 15 years old right now.

Elsewhere, one time scholar and youth Sam Oji is on a two-match trial with Southend, having made only one appearance with Birmingham since his move of couple of years back.

Raise a glass to The Royal Oak, birthplace of Royal Arsenal. The Pullman pub, once known as The Royal Oak, is considered the place where the Arsenal was formed on Christmas Day in 1886. Recent expansion of the Docklands Light Railway means the old building had to make way.
